Ontario's Fastest Growing Dog Sport

Julie Reniewick, Cooper & Cubby

After watching dock diving for years on T.V. Julie decided to try a competition. 7 year old Cubby (yellow lab) had a great first year in 2009, sporting a personal best of 17'5", Julie's other dog Cooper (black lab) has been making his own waves too, reaching himself to the top of the Novice division with personal best of 9 feet.  Julie is one of our steadfast wranglers and can often be seen in the pouring rain directing people on and off the dock.
Look for more of this tream in 2011, the wedding is over, the jam jars have been made and Julie has plenty of spare time to do it up DockDogs style!

Stephanie, Austin & Spencer Fuller
Campbellville, ON

This family has become addicted to this sport and they enjoy a bit of rivalry between Mother and Son.  So far Austin has been holding his own, making finals at both of his events so far this season.  Spencer, their crazy yellow lab has found his niche, not only is he great in Big Air but he's also got the hang of Speed Retrieve!
With quite a few events left this summer it will be up to Austin to show Mom how it's done, after all, he's currently the #2 ranked Junior Handler in Canada!

Morgan, Blitz & Tactix Jarvis,
Bowmanville, ON

Morgan Jarvis, co-owner of SuperDog Central Inc. and professional dog trainer, has over 20 years of experience working and having fun with dogs.  As a member of the world famous SuperDog team for over 20 years, Morgan has toured and performed throughout North America as well as Puerto Rico and Bermuda.
Morgan is a firm believer in motivational training methods and has conducted seminars in the United States teaching the 'clicker method' of dog training.
When she's not teaching, grooming or performing at SuperDog shows and competitions, Morgan actively competes in flyball, disc, DockDogs and agility competitions across North America.

Aside from Blitz & Tactix, Morgan shares her life with Teegan & Trinity (Standard Poodles), Billy the Border Collie and Tango (Miniature Poodle).  All of her dogs with the exception of Tactix and Trinity have been from local Humane Societies or Rescue Groups.

Barb Booty & Scout
Hamilton, ON

Scout had a very interesting break out season, after two events she was still nicknamed "Rampy" for her fondness of that approach to dock diving, this little pup had it all figured out!
After much persuasion and persistence, Barb was able to get this little dynamo to finally take the plunge at Carrot Fest, to much applause and cheering of the crowds!
Scout is prepping for a banner year, working her 'pocket lab' physique into top form, looking to break all of her records and set the dock on fire!

Kristy Seminsky & Mike Millar
Roscoe& Bruno
Courtice, ON

Kristy and Mike are one of the dynamic duos on the Ontario DockDogs circuit!  These two have been known to hold friendly competitions to determine who will jump their bouncing black lab Roscoe in the Club Finals.  With much success in 2009 Roscoe not only perfected his Big Air form but he also mastered Speed Retrieve and even tried his hand at Extreme Vertical, looks like we may have another Iron Dog contender in our midst.

2010 is the beginning of  a new season for this family with newcomer Bruno arriving late in 2009, this  big boy is full of promise, and with Superdog Central in their backyard he will be ready to take a flying leap into the pool just like his big brother!

Lisa & Fortune
Chatham, ON

Fortune was born in Dec 2002 and spent her first year and a half preparing to be a Service Dog, however, she was Career Changed due to a medical condition. Fortune was first introduced to Dock Diving at Scugog in 2007 but wasn’t able to get back onto the Dock until the International Food Festival in London (09) where she won first place overall in the Novice Division. She continues to improve with each jump and is working her way toward a Title in the Senior Division.
When not on the dock she can be found tormenting the felines, hanging out in the ball pit with the kids at work, raiding the garbage, or running thru the woods up at the cottage. This tiny Lab loves life and is always ready to party and have a good time.

Joanne Crockett & Nova Crni Lotos
North York, ON

Nova Crni Lotos is a 5 year old Rottweiler. She just received her CKC Championship and is working on French Ring Sport. She loves playing ball, swimming, and playing with her park buddies. Her favourite toys are her ball and floating Kong. I joined DockDogs because I know Nova would love doing this and I will enjoy seeing her smile.
We are looking forward to participating in our first year (2009) with Ontario DockDogs and meeting our fellow Ontario Dock Doggers.

Andy, Tucker and Murdock (Dock)
St. Catharines, ON

Andy's team of dockdivers has grown to include newly acquired puppies Tucker (a rescue) and Murdock (also a rescue, pictured above).  This team is still learning the ropes but with a veteran like Andy at the helm they are sure to learn fast.  What lucky puppies to have found a home in a great family.

Kim and Tripp
Brampton, ON

Tripp (a.k.a. Tripperific) is an enthusiastic young Border Collie who loves water and toys very much.  DockDogs looks to be a great fit for this energetic young pup and Kim is always on the look out for fun things for Tripp to do, keeping both his mind and body active.  Tripp is currently learning agility and loves to hike, snowshoe and camp in the wilds of Ontario.  He's a real outdoorsman!
Tripp and Kim are new to the sport but through perseverence and patience Tripp finally took the plunge!  Always a crowd favourite, Tripp likes to get right down, have a look at the water, maybe check the temperature and then as the seconds are counting down on the timer takes a flying leap in the pool!  Of course all of his antics are done while sporting his one of a kind orange life vest!  What a card!

Todd Fetzer & Jazz
East Aurora, NY

Todd and Jazz are a familiar face on the Ontario DockDogs scene.  First seen at an Ontario event last year they made waves at the Spring Cottage Life Show with a personal best jump of 22'7", good enough for a second place finish in the semi-pro finals.
The Fetzers decided that Ontario DockDogs was for them and joined the crew shortly afterwards and are now regulars, making a stop at WOOFSTOCK, with Todd trying his hand at announcing and doing a GREAT job!
#1 Cheerleader and head of their pack is Todd's wife Sue who reins both guys in when they get too wild!
This team represented Canada at the DockDogs World Championships in Stillwater, MN, after receiving their invite for their "performance" in the Zone 8 World Qualifier we are proud to call this team one of our own
.

Luke Zubick, Logan & Sky
London, ON

Luke, Logan and Sky hail from London, ON.  This team started out slowly with a few jumps in 2007, when Luke got the hang of it the "Luke and Logan" duo became a force to be reckoned with, placing in the top division at club events as well as taking home divisional honours at the DockDogs National Championships in Wisconsin this fall.
Luke is an active club member who makes a mean chocolate chip cookie!  Luke's recently acquired "lab child", Sky who seems to be improving with leaps and bounds.  Sky and Logan have the drive and the speed that is needed to excel in DockDogs so there is no limit to what the Zubick family will achieve in the upcoming season.

Kristina Bailey
Bradford, ON

Kris and her two Border Collies are involved in a variety of dog sports. They can be seen performing with DogSmart Performance Team. Askum - 9yrs is a rescue from Border Collie Rescue of Ontario and only does kiddie pools, "If I can't touch the bottom, I am not going in". Then there is Panic a Blue Merle Border Collie who gives 150% to anything he attempts. Panic has improved in leaps and bounds, securing himself National and Regional titles in the Junior division and making his way into Senior in 2010!
Through patience and perseverence this team has excelled at this sport and are regulars at all our club events. The heart of this team is the handler Kris, she was recognized for her contribution to this sport through a nomination at the DockDogs National Championships, she truly is our #1 Cheerleader.

Ashley Hopkins, Austin and Ryder
Branchton, ON

After searching the internet for an exciting sport for Ashley's dog, Austin, to compete in, she finally found Dock Dogs! Austin is an energetic, toy driven, very competitive Australian Shepherd-Cattle Dog Mix. Austin absolutely loves the water. He can spend all day swimming and chasing his toys into the lake. He is a very busy dog, and was in need of a sport to keep him going and something that he could really excell in.
Ashley is an absolute dog lover since a little girl, growing up with dogs throughout her life. She has also been around the dog training industry and the dog grooming industry as well. Her pack also consists of another Australian Shepherd, who she got last fall, named Ryder. Ryder is only 8months old now, and is currently along for the ride with Austin, in hopes of getting him off the dock later this year!
Ashley and Austin are new to Dock Dogs this year, and are already having a great year so far. Austin competed in his first event in February at the Pet Fun Fest, and finished up with a personal best of 19'11, winning 1st place in the Senior Division. We are looking forward to seeing how this first year progresses and many more jumps off the dock! Watch for Austin this season, this is just the beginning.

Born: August 10, 2010
Samson made his swimming debut at the ODD fun swim this past January and at that time wasn’t too sure of the whole swimming thing. We are hopeful that with practice and training he will jump like his dad Duncan and Aunt Zoe.

Eleanor Macciocchi

Cooling off in the lake is like heaven on earth for this natural born swimmer. Riley is a nine year old LabX, who’s spent the past 8 summers diving into Rice Lake, while his owner’s Eleanor & Vince spend hours trying to coax him out. The entire family is very enthusiastic about Riley’s new venture, as is his new four legged “sister” Abby who will no doubt be his biggest fan!”

Being a relatively new team they've got nowhere to go but UP, with Big Air mastered Sarah has Speed Retrieve on the horizon (she's a Retriever so it should be no problem!).
Along with dock diving and conformation Candace and Todd also enjoy Agility with their dogs and just hanging out at the cottage.  The other two family members are not to be forgotten, Candace and Todd also have a team of Belgian horses that they are in the process of training to ride and drive!

Toni Schraa & Riley
Collingwood, ON

Toni is another one of those junior handlers walking around the DockDogs town. She is no newbie to the sport as she was lucky enough to travel with her Dad helping to set up and run DockDog events across the province learning the ins and outs of the background operations of DockDogs. Although she's been involved with DockDogs for the past two years she is a relative "newbie" on the dock. This fall Toni was lucky enough to get a dog of her own! Now with her new found Doggy she is now one of us, addicted to this sport.
Riley is a black Lab who just turned 2. She has not been in the sport long with a first jump of 6 feet. But she is a quick learner with a whopping 15 feet 6 inches in the first month of competing winning second place at the National Championships in Novice ! Keep up the good work Riley and Toni !

Debbie Browning & Chablis
Toronto, ON

Chablis is a sweet little Golden Retriever, and maybe just a bit of a princess, but don't let that pretty face fool you. When it comes to dock diving, she's high drive and all business. When introduced to the sport, she was rather hesitant at first, but once she realized there was retrieving and swimming involved, she never looked back, gaining confidence and distance with every jump. "Bumper, bumper, bumper.....where's my bumper, bumper, bumper!!!"

Dawn Farah and Jynx
Bradford, ON

Years ago, when DockDogs first came to Ontario, Dawn Farah tried her speedy little flyball dog, Jynx, at the sport and became instantly hooked. Jynx, a border collie/terrier mix was one of the biggest jumpers from the beginning even competing against much larger dogs, winning Lap Dog of Year Awards in 2007 and 2010. In 2008, when Speed Retrieve started, Jynx also proved to be a natural at that. In fact, she was invited to the World Championships that year and took second place. She is still the only Lap Dog to get a World’s invitation and the only Canadian dog to place in the top three at a World Championship! Next on the agenda, due to her love of the sport, Dawn qualified as a SportMutt trainer, specializing in helping new dogs and owners get off the dock and into the pool and she is always available to assist at our events. Just look for the little blue and white dog “yelling” with joy as she flies off the dock!
